Fixed Deposits is considered to be the safest investment option with fixed returns. Bank Deposits/Post office deposits are considered to be the safest. Today many private players other than Banks offer deposits at attractive interest rate but it carries risk also. Minimum period of a Fixed Deposit is 7 Days and maximum Tenure is 10 Years. Interest rate varies according to the tenure of deposits. Senior Citizens are offered 0.50% higher rate of interest.
Customer can avail Loan against FD (upto 80 to 90%) at 1-2 % interest higher than the FD interest rate and for the tenure for which the FD is made. Customer can premature break the FD before the said tenure and penalty is charged by the Bank.
Tax Saver FD is also available where one can save tax upto Rs 150000 in a Financial Year. No loan can be taken against the FD; premature withdrawal facility is not available and cannot be made on Auto Renewal Option.
Customer can choose Monthly Interest Payment option where interest is paid monthly and calculated at simple interest basis or can choose Cumulative Interest Option where Interest is paid on Maturity and interest is calculated on Quarterly Compounding Basis. Presently FD rates are in the range of 6-7% which varies from Bank to Bank.
